If your iPhone is acting up, frozen on a screen, and/or won't respond to you, force-restarting it is a surefire way to whip it back into shape. And the process is easy on older devices ... just hold down a two-button combo until the Apple logo appears. That's no longer the case with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which require a more extensive procedure that's harder to remember.On the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, you would just hold down the Side button with the Volume Down button for ten seconds until the Apple logo appeared. To help keep my mind on track, I have a few extensions enabled to take control of my music playback.iPlay Playbar, by developer Nattapong Pullkhow, adds playback controls to your Mac's menu bar which makes switching songs easier, especially if you are using a non-Apple keyboard. Additionally, I also use MiniPlayer from developer MPow, which is a more feature-packed version of Apple's own MiniPlayer option. After the deal, Deutsche Telekom, which owns about 67% of T-Mobile, would maintain a 20% ownership stake.While regulators denied AT&T's offer for Tmo in the past, this deal may garner more support as the nation's third and fourth largest carriers plan to combine, which is something that Softbank (company that owns Sprint) will argue will create more competition among the major players.The combined networks of the two companies would put a scare into the "big two", as they'll no longer hold their status for the best networks in country. Unfortunately, these controls are exclusive to iTunes; if you're playing music from Spotify, Pandora, or the myriad of other online web-based services (Amazon, Rdio, SoundCloud, etc.), you're out of luck.However, with the help of BeardedSpice, a menu bar app for Mac OS X from developers Jose Falcon and Tyler Rhodes, you can lift those restrictions to control web-based media players in Chrome and Safari with the media controls on your keyboard.
Installing BeardedSpice on Your MacFirst, download the BeardedSpice .tar file and unpack it, then drag the BeardedSpice app into your Applications folder. Next, open up the app; just make sure that you have allowed third-party app installs in your Mac's security settings, if not done already.

Using BeardedSpice to Control Web-Based MusicAfter successfully opening it, an icon will appear in your menu bar showing all of the webpages that are compatible with BeardedSpice, including Spotify (web player), SoundCloud, Pandora, YouTube, Google Music, and many more. Select a web player to control from the menu bar list, as you can only control one at a time. From there, you'll be able to use the media keys found on at the top of Apple keyboards to control the music: back, play/pause, and next.

Changing BeardedSpice's SettingsIn the "Preferences" menu, you can set shortcuts for things like setting the active tab and favorites, and you can also enable/disable keyboard controls for specific sites. If the web player you use isn't supported and you've got some experience with JavaScript functions, implement the handler yourself using the guide on BeardedSpice.

So, what happens if you accidentally delete a message that you really wanted to save, or want to delete a message that you don't want popping back up later? Here are some of your options for managing your messages and chat history.

Deleting Messages and Chat HistoryIf you're worried about having a record of some of your more sensitive conversations, you can easily delete them from Facebook. Just log in to your account and go to the Messages icon. Both regular messages and chat messages are stored here. Just select a thread you'd like to edit and mouse over to the gear icon labeled Actions. Click on it and a drop-down menu will appear. If you're looking to hide a message or thread from your page, but not get rid of it completely, just Archive it. Archiving removes the items from your messages, but they can still be accessed at anytime.If you want that message gone for good, you can delete the entire conversation (all messages within the thread) or just a particular message. You will be warned that any deletion will remove the message from this realm and the next. On Facebook's mobile app, the process is more or less the same. If you have the most recent version, your messages and chats will come in the form of Chat Heads. If you click on a Chat Head, it will bring you into the standard messaging screen, but you can't delete a message from within a Chat Head conversation. Next to your Chat Heads is the standard messages icon (a square dialog box with a mini lightning bolt inside). Click on this icon to see a list of all your conversations and chats. All you have to do is select a message or thread and slide your finger to either side. You'll be given the option to Archive or Delete the conversation.If you're using the Facebook Messenger application, the process is nearly identical. The only differences is in the Messenger app, you must slide to the right to bring up the Archive and Delete options. Sliding to the left reveals the chat list and settings.

However, the social media empire is making strides — small strides — to win trust with how it handles your user data. One of those efforts involves a way to prevent Facebook from tracking your iPhone or Android phone's location when you're not using the app.Both iOS and Android let you block geolocation data for apps like Facebook, but that's a broad setting that means Facebook will never know your location even if you want it to, perhaps to check in somewhere or tag a place in a photo. It's the times when you're not actively using Facebook that you'd likely want to prohibit geolocation data from being read.To give you more control, on Feb. 20, 2019, Facebook implemented a new setting inside the app that lets you block it from tracking your coordinates in the background. While this is an entirely new option on Android, you could always restrict background geolocation tracking on iOS to only when you're using the app, but Facebook is making this more obvious.

Preventing Location Tracking on AndroidIf you kept "Location History" disabled in the past or never turned it on to begin with, Facebook automatically disables the new "Background Location" option so no background tracking will be done. Location History keeps a record of your tracked locations on Facebook and is required to utilize some of Facebook's location-based apps like "Nearby Friends."Don't Miss: View, Delete & Disable Your FB Location History Data For those of you who have "Location History" enabled, or if you just aren't sure whether or not you did, there's an easy way to disable it or make sure it's disabled.Facebook may show you an information warning about this new feature in your feed when opening the app, tap "Manage Settings" on it.
