How To: Lock Individual Apps on Your Galaxy S3 Based on Location
If you lend someone your phone, even if it's just for a second, there's a chance they can enter an app and see something you'd rather they didn't. Whether it's a personal email or a private photo, there are plenty of reasons why you'd want to keep snoops out of certain apps.I've already shown you how to keep photos and videos tucked away with a content vault, as well as lock down apps with App Lock, but today I'm going to show you a better way to protect apps through various security methods, and then play dumb when snoops can't open them. Lockdown Pro, by development team AppPlus.Mobi, lets you assign a pattern or passcode to any app, and even creates a fake error message for incognito anti-snooping. What differentiates this from apps like App Lock is its ability to let you auto-lock apps whenever you're in a specified location, or using a specified Wi-Fi hotspot. Oh, and it's free.

Step 1: Set Up a Pattern or PinAfter installing Lockdown Pro, the first thing you'll need to do is create the password. Choose classic or pattern, then enter it in on the next screen and repeat the code to confirm.

Step 2: Set Up a Security QuestionSelect a security question from the drop-down menu that will be used in case of forgotten patterns or too many failed attempts. You can skip this step if you'd like, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Step 3: Choose the App's ThemeHit the theme icon in the top-right corner to change the way the unlock screen looks.

Step 4: Lock Down Your AppsNow, for the main event. In the main menu there is an app counter that shows the total number of apps that can be "locked down", as well as the number of apps that are currently locked down. You can also use Fake Cover to fool people into thinking that the app just doesn't work on your device. Once you've selected the apps to lock down by flipping the toggle sliders from red to green, make sure Lockdown Pro is switched on and you'll be protected.

Step 5: Select Additional FeaturesLockdown Pro doesn't simply lock your apps and leave you hanging. You can also hide the app from your app drawer and home screen so no one can mess with your settings. To open it again, you simply dial the default number. You can also lock newly installed apps with one tap, create location-based locks for certain apps, and change lock patterns depending on your Wi-Fi connection. So if you're connected to your home Wi-Fi, your locks can be turned off, whereas they can be activated when connected to unfamiliar Wi-Fi networks.Lockdown Pro is a great, all-around app locker with super useful features and a clean UI. If you want to lock your apps and prevent other cheddars from peeping, then this a great choice. Now you can keep those selfies to yourself.

While certainly convenient for iPhone users — a four- to six-digit passcode is easier to remember than a full password — the concern here is the ease with which an attacker could compromise your data. That easy-to-remember passcode is potentially an easy-to-guess key to your iPhone.You can't restore an encrypted backup without its password. With iOS 11 or later, you can make a new encrypted backup of your device by resetting the password. Here's what to do:On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Reset. Tap Reset All Settings and enter your iOS passcode. Follow the steps to reset your settings. This won't affect your user data or passwords, but it will reset settings like display brightness, Home screen layout, and wallpaper. It also removes your encrypted backup password. Connect your device to iTunes again and create a new encrypted backup. You won't be able to use previous encrypted backups, but you can back up your current data using iTunes and setting a new backup password.

New statements from Apple make it clear that they do not believe a hacker, or group of hackers, breached any of their systems. This comes after a recent report from Motherboard that a hacker gang called the "Turkish Crime Family" is threatening to remotely wipe up to 559 million iPhones by April 7.The hackers claim they hold an alleged cache of stolen accounts, and their goal is to shake down the big Apple for $75,000 in Bitcoin or Ethereum cryptocurrency. Alternatively, in lieu of those options, they will even accept $100,000 in iTunes gift cards (a potentially risky option for them).Apple responded to the allegation that the hackers breached its systems, assuring their systems were not compromised, but did not confirm if the hackers do in fact hold an entire collection of Apple IDs and passwords. Whatever information they do have, probably came from previously comprised third-parties."If the list is legitimate, it was not obtained through any hack of Apple," an Apple spokesperson told Fortune in an email. "There have not been any breaches in any of Apple's systems including iCloud and Apple ID."Even if the data didn't come from an Apple breach, it could still mean your iCloud login details are out there. Fortune suggested that the logins could be from the LinkedIn hack, in which login info from 117 million accounts was sold on the black market site "The Real Deal." They can't test every login, so the small sample may not be indicative of the whole.The Turkish Crime Family also noted to TNW that all conversations with Apple were actually kept private and never reported to Motherboard. Instead, the conversation between the Turkish Crime Family and Motherboard were led by a member that has now been removed for his "inaccuracy" and "lack of professionalism," an the group denies the authenticity of Motherboard's report. Overall, the hacking team seems to have a hard time sticking to one story.Now, the hacker group is confirming Apple's statement that its systems have not been breached, and that the stolen data was obtained through previously compromised systems over the last five years. They did not breach the company, nor did they ever state to Motherboard that they stole the info directly from Apple.Rather, after Motherboard's breaking March 21 report, a breach was assumed by some news outlets such as BGR, though most media sites never directly stated that the hackers breached Apple. The Turkish Crime Family's initial response to Motherboard, and the group's only statement, was to extort Apple over an alleged cache of iCloud and other Apple email accounts.
